Your Initial Consultation:

It all starts at the initial consultation! The initial consultation is where you will meet with Dr Wishney and one of our highly skilled treatment co-ordinators to discuss your treatment goals, and your personal concerns with your smile. During this time, Dr Wishney will also examine your teeth and jaw alignment, and may take dental photographs and digital scans to get a further understanding of your case.

At the end of your initial consultation, Dr Wishney will provide you with his recommendations for treatment. Including the estimated duration of treatment, the costs of treatment, as well as types of appliances he recommends, such as braces or clear aligners.

Starting Treatment:

Should you decide to start treatment with Newcastle Orthodontics, the next step will be to book your start date; our friendly team will book an appointment to have your braces fitted, or your clear aligner issued at a time that best suits you.

Adjustment Appointments:

Once you start treatment, you will need to visit our practice every so often for adjustment appointments. In most cases, this is every 6-8 weeks throughout the duration of your treatment. These appointments are important so that Dr Wishney can closely observe the movement of your teeth to ensure they are moving according to his treatment plan.

Maintaining Your Appliance And Oral Hygiene:

Throughout the course of your treatment, it’s essential that you still maintain good oral hygiene, so brushing your teeth a minimum twice a day (reaching all the tricky spots if you’re wearing braces) as well as flossing. You also will still need to visit your general dentist throughout your orthodontic treatment for routine check ups and cleaning.

As well as maintaining good oral health, it’s also important that you take good care of your orthodontic appliance! Whether it be braces, or clear aligners, ensuring they are kept in good condition is paramount. This means avoiding foods that may damage your appliance, such as nuts, and sticky food like lollies. And also being careful when playing sports, especially if it’s a contact sport (make sure you ask Dr Wishney what mouth guard to wear for contact sports!).

Finishing Treatment:

Once your treatment plan has finished, and Dr Wishney is happy with your result, you will finish treatment. This means no more aligners, or having your braces removed to see your beautiful new smile!

Maintaining Your New Smile:

Finally, once your treatment has finished, Dr Wishney will recommend a retainer protocol for you. A retainer is an orthodontic appliance that is worn after treatment to ensure your teeth stay in their new correct alignment. The amount of time this retainer will be required for will depend on Dr Wishney’s recommendations. To ensure an amazing smile for life, it is important to follow Dr Wishney’s advice.
